As in a lot of things, “who we are” is defined by “what we do,” and most churches are defined that way as well. New Hope Missions Church is no exception. Our story begins with the need to do something – to form a daughter church in Mooresville. But, in the process we found that Mooresville had a lot of churches – good churches; and we wondered, “does Mooresville need another church?”
We realized that if we were going to do any good in starting another church, it had to have a different vision, a different approach, and a different appeal. We thought, “what if we started New Hope with a missions focus from its inception” and, as the saying goes, “an idea was born!”
We thought, what if we started a church that did not try to ‘compete’ with other churches on the basis of meeting people’s desire to be helped, but on their need to help others? John F. Kennedy’s famous quote came to mind: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
Instead of trying to have the best music, the best worship, the best children’s program, what if we offered people the avenue by which they can find real fulfillment and real purpose in their lives (isn’t everyone really looking for that?), by inviting them to serve God by serving others in His name?
Additionally, one of the most difficult things for any church to do, is to develop an outward-serving focus, rather than inward-serving one. Therefore, it is our firm conviction to start New Hope Missions Church with that outward focus from our inception. That is why before we will ever start weekly worship, we have already been serving in the Mooresville Community with our church-planting team (see the “Community Service” webpage). And, we have already established a missions connection with our partner church in Kenya, with plans to send a 10-15 person team there within the first 6-9 months of our formation. (See the “Missions Connection” in this website.)
Our vision is to be a “sending church” from our inception – a church that regularly sends its people into the mission field, serving the community and the world for Christ. And, that vision also is what we believe will increase our own faith in the process.
